Yippee. New estimate for the painting of my stairway ceiling is 1485, up
from about 500 when it was estimated about eighteen months ago. Plus 490
for replacing the shingles blown off by the recent storm (which I was
unaware of, but I knew there had been a couple back then...)

Where am I going to find two grand on this short notice? *sigh*

$1485?! How far above the stairs is this ceiling? It's a rental, why paint it? Get another estimate.

Actually, no. It's the house I own and am renting to other people. And the city is basically threatening to evict them unless it's done within a month from the first week of March (you see the urgency). There's plaster to be redone and so on, and because of the age of the house there's a pretty good chance the existing (peeling) paint is lead-based. So I don't have a choice about doing it, nor the time to mess around.

Teach me to do the plaster, and I'll do the ladder work. I'd consider the learning experience to be adequate compensation for the work.

You buy the plaster and the paint, however. :)
