I wanted to see Death to Smoochy at the discount theatre near work. It turned out to be showing only at 9:15, so I wasted the intervening three hours by going shopping at the mall. On a whim I went to Wilson's Leathers, and found a clearance sale: 50% off the lowest marked price. The selection was very picked over, and there were very few sizes available, but I got a black leather miniskirt and a blood-red leather bodice for a total of $40 (original price would have been closer to $200). Then I went to Hot Topic looking for shoes. They only had two pairs even close to my size, but one was too small and the other too big. I went to Supermarket of Shoes instead and found a pair of shoes and a pair of boots, again both on sale. After that I went and splurged all the savings and then some, buying Rosa the beginnings of a summer wardrobe. Doorknobs for my new doors, which are due to be installed tomorrow and Friday, a frozen custard sundae, and it was time to go to the movie.

I quite enjoyed it. It had that dark comedy vibe that amuses me more than straight comedy. Like Heathers, people were getting killed all over the place, but it was funny. And the whole premise was so completely absurd: jealousy over the kids' show crown.

Oh yay.

The first piece of spam (Gevalia coffee) just caught up to me on my new email address. I've been using it exclusively for all of a week now.

I just came back from lunch at Joe's Crab Shack. It was very strange. For most of last year, I went there at least once a week with Jill and/or Chris. Today I was alone (about which more in a moment) and none of the waitstaff that used to know us by name seemed to be there. It was like a completely different place without half a dozen waitresses stopping by the table to say hello.

I was sure today was the day we had planned to go to lunch, but I didn't confirm it ahead of time, and I'd already deleted the email. I don't know whether I got the day wrong or they just didn't show up. I hope it was my mistake, because if not I'm going to really feel dissed.

Ooh, possible clue to why they didn't show up. Kimmie just walked in. She left the employee meeting (scheduled for 9-11) before it ended--at 12:30! There's another meeting this afternoon, scheduled for 1-3, which I was going to attend. Now I'm even less eager to do so.

The horrible, dead boring, long-ass meeting was indeed at fault for the failure of my lunch plans.

Said employee meeting had exactly one thing going for it. It was not begun with an invocation (read: prayer). Instead we had a moment of silence. In its way, a huge improvement.

Oh, and during Yet Another Discussion of the Dress Code™, someone asked whether there was a policy on underwear (cf this). Thankfully the HR director said no, but she also said something about underwear being a sensitive issue and one that would be handled directly with one's supervisor or with her. If anyone ever even thinks about giving me trouble about whether or not I wear underwear to work, they'll be hit with a sexual harassment suit so fast they'll fall over. What I wear (or don't wear) under my clothes is nobody's business but mine.

We now have definitive confirmation that DSL and modem connection can coexist on the same phone line at the same time.
