I've been typing misplaced apostrophes everywhere the last few days. I know the difference between "it's" and "its", but I keep using the former word where it doesn't belong. Being the anal-retentive grammar maven that I am, I always go back and fix them, but I can't for the life of me figure out why my fingers have started to do that.

I just made a room reservation at the Town Inn Suites, Toronto for 9/19-23. See you guys soon! (Yeah, and the rest of you too, but you're not waiting on the reservation.)

Randomness

  • I just realized/remembered that today is Ray's birthday. No, I didn't get him anything.

  • If, as reported in the Financial Times's Barons of Bankruptcy report, the CEO's of the top 25 bankrupt corporations made $3.3 billion at the same time as 100,000 jobs were lost, they could have paid each individual $33,000.

  • Rats, I want to read the report and the website only has a description. I have to rely on what I've heard about it on NPR.

  • I need a haircut.

  • This never-ending heat is really getting me down. The mountains are calling...Only ten more days!

Irony

The other day on the Diane Rehm show on NPR, the panel were discussing a potential war with Iraq. I found it highly amusing that one of the panelists remarked on how the world had changed since the last Gulf War. He said (paraphrased), "It's harder for us to get cooperation from other nations because their people are more outspoken against their governments' involvement." Which means: the US supports freedom and democracy around the world...until the people get uppity and use those freedoms to disagree with the US' policies.

Same thing here at home, isn't it. Voicing opposition to any government action taken "in Defense of Homeland Security" is "unpatriotic" at best. What happened to the Bill of Rights?
