Your reaction might be, "It's obviously Friday afternoon." But, while true, it's incomplete. Nearly every afternoon and many mornings on my aisle involve several grown men and occasionally a woman (once in a while even me) batting around a tiny white dimpled ball with a long bent metal stick, trying to make it roll into a battered styrofoam coffee cup. Mixed results often include balls getting stuck under the cubicle partition. Usually the one behind my desk, because the cup in question is taped to the cube beside mine, which means I get to crawl on the floor and play human ball return.

It's highly amusing, if rather distracting. Five or six guys all hanging around in the aisle practicing putting. It's become something of an attention-getter: the vp stops by and razzes them about not-working.

It's not really my bag, mostly because I'm absolute pants at any kind of golf. But also because my work-avoidance drug of choice looks more like this. Now if there was a pool table, that might be different.

But the guys and Debbie still tease me a bit trying to get me to play along, and I sometimes do. I keep meaning to buy some green duct tape and draw them a green on the floor, but that might be going just a step beyond what the Facilities Manager would tolerate. We got an official notice today that space heaters are disallowed (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] lavendargrrl, I guess I gotta keep having cold feet). I can't imagine what she'd do if we modified up the building!

Not long after we first moved to this building, some workplace wag labeled our cubicle aisles with street names. Ours was (and still is) "Yellow Brick Road" for no apparent reason. I think it needs to be changed to something punnish and golf-related. I was thinking about "Green Jacket Green" or "Fair Way". Any suggestions?
