Storm 4/27/11
Apr. 23rd, 2011 11:06 amGreat big storm in the St. Louis area last night, so what did we decide to do? LET'S GO TO THE MALL!
We parked the van in the garage and went in through Macy's second floor. We weren't there ten minutes before an announcement came over the loudspeaker that all associates and customers were to gather in the shoe department on the first floor.
We went out into the mall area instead, where a security officer said please stay out of the way of the big glass skylights...we went to the first floor and walked toward the other shops we'd wanted to visit. Every small shop was empty and had its gates closed, with the employees and customers sitting on the floor by the walls.
We found a bench sort of under the ceiling and sat in it. Security officers came by every few minutes to give updates on the storm and suggest we go into a back hallway. No chairs there though, and Chris does not do well sitting on a hard floor. We stayed put watching the weather information on Tammie's new iphone, getting news about destruction at the airport, tornadoes touching down in Ferguson, Maryland Heights,...
Finally about 8:45 they gave us the all clear and we went home by way of the Donut Drive-in. (Donuts make everything better.) There was still lightning in the southeast. It was nearly constant. Great masses of cloud would light up and just flicker, never going quite dark.
Power in the house was on, and the street lights in the alley were on, but the street lights in front were all out. No visible damage here to trees or anything else.
