Back at the end of June, I joined the Y. I've been going two or three times a week to swim laps, but around Labor Day I stopped going for a couple weeks. The day I finally went back, when I got out of the pool, I spotted a notice on the bulletin board.
Indoor Sprint Triathlon
Swim 500 yds, bike 9 miles, run 3.1 miles

Well, I knew I can swim 500 yards without a problem, since I'd just gotten out after doing 1500, and I was pretty sure I could bike 9 miles. It was the 3.1 miles of running that I was not so sure about. I have always hated running, and never been very good at it. But on the other hand, I knew I could *walk* that far, and I figured just finishing would be good enough.

So I thought I'd do some experimenting, and if it looked possible I'd sign up. For the last couple weeks, I've been testing each individual segment. Yes, I can bike 9 miles. Yes, I can run/walk 3.1 miles. Yesterday I did a combination: swimming and biking. That worked ok. Today I did biking and run/walking. That worked too.

So I went upstairs to the counter and said, "I am the insane person that would like to sign up for the triathlon."

And the counter girl said, "I would love to sign you up, but we just canceled it." Not enough entrants.

Can I keep this up long enough to be in shape for the spring event?
