Conflation 2013
Feb. 26th, 2013 03:16 pmWeekend just past, Chris and I went to Conflation. Without our Tammie this year, because she had conflicting weekend obligations. With some trepidation, because last year some not-good things happened in our lives during and around Conflation.
However, it was a positive and good experience, and we enjoyed ourselves. Even without the presence of Chris-n-Rob-from-Chicago, who we rarely get to see more than a couple times a year but have seen every year at Conflation since we met (gods, it's been seven years). They couldn't come because Chris got very sick at the last minute.
Donated several of my outshrunk dresses to the fashion show/charity auction, and was very gratified to see my favorite shimmery purple handkerchief hem dress go to the adorable Kerri, who looked fantastic in it. She wore it that evening for the parties, and I made sure to tell her so.
The con theme this year was vaudeville, so I had the costume idea of 'male impersonator'. I got myself a nice 3-piece men's suit at Goodwill, as well as several shirts and ties. I was lacking an appropriate hat, sadly, and I do need to get the trousers altered for better fit around my hipses, and the jacket sleeves could be an inch shorter (shorter? that never happens!) but overall the ensemble came out quite well, if the comments I was getting are anything to go by. ( Peeecture! )
There was a vaudeville show on Friday evening, mostly burlesque performances by the Thunder Kittens interspersed with talent from congoers. The best talent segment was "Who's On First" done by a couple guys; the best of show was hands-down the burlesque finale: "Cell Block Tango" by six women and one man who got murdered six times. They brought down the house.
