Where did that bridge come from!?!?
Sep. 2nd, 2013 10:09 pmThe other weekend, I was driving home from Illinois, having dropped Emma off to visit Joey for the weekend. I'm in the middle of the Poplar Street Bridge, at a temporary standstill (as one often is on the PSB), and I look to my left (north). There's a freaking suspension bridge over the Mississippi that wasn't there the last time I looked.
I could not for the life of me figure out how I missed a freaking huge bridge. I love bridges, I notice them! And I especially love suspension bridges, and especially especially the ones with the center posts and the cables going out to the sides. Which this one is.

It turns out the bridge really wasn't there the last time I looked. It's the long-awaited, long-controversial (Missouri and Illinois fought over the funding and the name for YEARS) Stan Musial Memorial Bridge. The roadbed was just laid, and the posts and cables installed, at the beginning of August.
