semperfionaRay just called to ask me about arrangements for custody for Thanksgiving, which is all fine...and then he started on "Rosa looks up to you. You're her model of womanhood" and "I was concerned when you guys went to the Renaissance Faire as to what you were wearing".
I asked him, "What are you trying to say?" trying not to get angry at what I inferred from his remarks.
Just as he was starting to explain, his cellphone died. He called back on the landline shortly afterward and backed off, saying "Never mind what I was saying, it was coming out sounding stupid."
I told him, "It's sounding insulting, as a matter of fact."
He said, "I know what I'm trying to say but I can't get it to come out right. I might bring it up again sometime."
I hope he doesn't. I think he has no right to judge me, nor to imply that I'm not a suitable role model for my daughter. I will be greatly pleased if she turns out just like me. He's never understood that I have a strong set of ethics; he thinks that because I don't believe in morals I don't have ethics. Which I am already working on teaching her. "We don't hurt other people." "We don't take things that don't belong to us."
