Ray came to pick up Rosa this morning.

"I see you have a tattoo on your back."

No response. Conversation about other things, dealing with ornery Rosa, etc.

"Can I at least see it or will it be offensive to me?"

So I showed it to him.

"Did it hurt?"

Eyeroll, which he did not see, being behind me at the time. No, not especially.

Offensive to him? Oh, for Pete's sake. I love your Ray stories:) What's funny is that he sounds like a genuinely nice person who means well and wants to be a good father - just a seriously repressed individual.

I know. He is all of that. I actually appreciate him quite a bit, especially for the overall civility of our divorce. We're getting along well of late, even conversing about things other than Rosa, and haven't had a fight in a long time.

We're just much too different to be together, that's all.

Yes, I sense the fact that the two of you usually handle sharing time with Rosa very well. It seems to be pretty civil as well as obvious that you're both primarily concerned with her best interests. It's pretty admirable considering how roughly it goes for other couples who divorce - it says a lot about both you and Ray.

*LOL* at the studio where I got my lotus tat done (Henry Goldfields, SF) there is a little cartoon style 'dialog balloon' that hangs above the counter, right above where a prospective customer would stand to talk to to the artists. It says "Does it hurt? Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!"
It always makes me giggle.
