The Diane Rehm Show this morning was about the possible ramifications of
overturning Roe v. Wade. One caller put forth an old canard about "a
woman, eight months pregnant, meets a man at a club and decides to get
an abortion because she thinks her chances with him would be better if
she weren't a single mother". I wanted to ask him whether he thinks it
would be better to have a woman who thinks this way as a PARENT?!

That really is a canard - I don't think there's any evidence at all of third-trimester abortions being carried out for that sort of reason. I suppose it's possible that women who think that way exist, but I suspect they'd be far more likely to go the adoption route by that stage, given that the abortion procedure at 36 weeks would be birth in all but name anyway.

the question is complete bullshit. Third trimester abortions for those reasons aren't legal, nor would (I hope) any licensed doctor perform one. If you're eight months knocked up and decide you don't want a baby, you put it up for adoption.
(or sell it on the internet to five different families, if you're from Arkansas.)

yeah, it's just like the old argument about prostitutes using abortion as a method of birth control. Your point? It's such a stupid argument. Giving birth does not automatically grant one with great parenting skills.

Yep, it's much better for her to give birth to the child, strap the baby in a car seat, and drive her car into a lake... much more respectful of human life that way, don't you think?

Geez.
