Today's movies

It took me a long time to suspend the disbelief in a seemingly sophisticated woman being attracted to the boys. In another day they'd have been called good-for-nothings or ne'er-do-wells. But as time went on, and the three started to share confidences, it seemed more and more plausible. And of course, we discovered her reason for running away at the end, and it all made much more sense.
This movie gets extra points from Fiona for featuring a scene with two boys kissing, though they run away in the morning like frightened mice from the implications thereof.
Hmm. I think that might be a big part of what the movie is about. People's fear of the truth about themselves:can friendship stand up to deep revelations about ourselves, or is it merely based in enjoying the same things.
Men in Black II
I really enjoyed Men in Black. As I commented to Jen on the way out of the theater, I laughed a lot. I found it funnier than many of the so-called comedies I've seen lately. I like dead-pan sarcastic humor, and both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones did it very well.
The plot is absurd, of course, and the "science" is even sillier, but who cares? That's part of what makes it so fun. Quite a contrast from the preceding movie, and not going to be one that sticks with me and makes me think, but most amusing.
I love it when Jen calls and asks me to go do something with her. Sometimes I feel like I'm always asking her, and I wonder if I'm being pushy.
