I got an email yesterday requesting no personal use of the internet between 9 and noon today, as the company is doing a big Webex for our members. I held out until 10:30, then tried to check my email. As it turns out, the connection was extremely slow, so all I did was see that I've got 26 messages waiting, none of them vitally important, and close IE. So instead of posting immediately as I think of things, I'm accumulating a long rambly bunch of thoughts, and I'll post them at or around noon.

I need to get Pocket LJ. Not to mention figure out what's wrong with my Palm Pilot and fix or replace it. It hasn’t worked since Rosa got her hands on it several weeks ago. It may be that the only thing wrong is dead batteries, but I've lost all my data. Luckily, this time, I hadn't really put anything new in it directly: I've made lots of address entries in Palm Desktop though. So first order of business is to figure out where the cradle has disappeared to. I haven't seen it since I moved, though admittedly I haven't looked for it either.

My cell phone and keycard (for work) are missing too. Those have only been missing for a week and a half, but there's no sign of them. I called to request a new keycard this morning; the cell phone has got to turn up somewhere! I can't imagine that they're anywhere besides my own house, but it's such a mess that that doesn't really say much. Still living in Fortress Box, now five months after moving. Shame on me.

Actually did some work this morning, in preparation for a meeting tomorrow. I'm being called on to consult with the new princesses of the Tran 5 (of which I was queen, until abdicating in favor of working on Project Discovery) to try to figure out how to fix some deeply ingrained problems with it, or whether it's even worth trying, since Discovery is due out next summer. For my loyal readers, since I don't think I've mentioned these things by name before, the Tran 5 is a complicated subsystem for entering service orders (ie connections and disconnections of electric service) and Project Discovery is the newfangled Java project, generation 3 of our software. We make billing and accounting software for electric cooperatives.

Interrupted by a call from Ray.

Hmm. Things to think about. He's concerned about my trip to Colorado with Rosa in August: it is a rather long drive, and while I'd already planned on two days each way, he's still worried about Rosa being in the car for such a long time. So he made some proposals. He offered to buy us roundtrip airline tickets to Denver, where we'd rent a car for the drive up to Estes Park, or alternatively to fly to Denver with Rosa, where I'd pick her up having driven out there, and then drop her at the airport on the way back again and he'd fly home with her again. I hadn't considered any such possibilities, as I'm kind of trying to save money right now and I was not going to ask him for any. But since he offered...I need to see how all the alternatives compare in cost--money and time and opportunity for interaction with Rosa--and think about whether there's a hidden downside or ulterior motive in his offer.

I don't entirely trust him, but he's not been the kind of horrible ex-husband that (for instance) Deena has. Hers has just served custody papers on her for the third time since their divorce, and she's already $40,000 in debt from previous lawyer fees. I think my divorce--legal fees and court costs anyway--cost me all of $1200. Never mind how much of "my" money I had to give Ray in the settlement. At least I didn't have to go into debt to do it.

The person who was supposed to come help me yesterday still hasn't shown up. I really do wish he would be more reliable in keeping his word on such things. Yes, he's busy. But I'm completely unproductive at this point and I need his help! to get moving again, so every minute he doesn't come help me is my time completely wasted.

Whee, the internet is back up! Or rather, freed up.
