Anniversary

December first. First anniversary of my Livejournal. There's a post dated November 30, 2001, but it was posted later.

I started the journal mainly so that quinnclub and I could use LJ as a place for chronicling our Artist's Way progress. I'd been reading devilmuse's journal from the web, but that was it. I believe it was DM who gave me the initial code to start mine, and I subscribed to ourartistsway. LJ was a big topic of discussion on Wombat around that time, and right away I added most/all of the women who had mentioned having one. That gave me a longish friends list right away.

I quickly realized that LJ was going to be a big thing in my life, and bought a year's paid account on December 15. Gradually I added more and more communities and more and more friends, mainly met in comment discussions on other journals or communities, in a couple of instances due to a direct introduction, or when I noticed them on my friend-of list and found we had interests or other friends in common.

Looking at that I note that I actually created the account on 11/30/2001. But my first post was in fact on 12/1/2001, and now I remember why. For whatever reason, I could not get the validation to go through that night; I tried several times at intervals ranging from five minutes to half an hour, but nothing worked. Finally I even posted a support topic, but eventually the next day everything straightened out.

terribleangel already snagged Amber, and Barrayar was taken, so I made Komarr.

I had been going to say I wanted to move regions, but I couldn't found the link. However LJ didn't post this, and in the meantime I found it. But I can't find the Golden Circle anymore. Did you delete it, terribleangel?

And then NationStates' server decided not to let me be logged in anymore.

Update: Found it. Not having the list of regions in alphabetical order really sucks.

The left button on my mouse has just decided to cease working. D'ya know how hard it is to navigate around M$ Windows without it? I turned the buttons around so that now the right one does the job of the left one. I'll have to live without contextual menus for a while.

Good excuse to buy an optical cordless mouse, though.
