The ACLU rocks. I mean that. Seriously. I was shocked when someone told me they were a liberal organization! Bull! There the most staunchly conservative strict constitutionalists I've ever known!
Maybe I'll join them, instead of the L. P.. Since the election, I've wanted to join something. ~sigh~
Indeed. But the current crop of Republicans are neither conservative nor strict constitutionalists. They're gutting civil liberties daily in the name of security. They're also tearing down civil liberties for the sake of religious radicalism.
I know what you mean about wanting to join something. That feeling is what spurred me to do it.
I may be naive, but I really do trust the ACLU and the Supreme Court to stop these abuses. Of course with three judges rumored to be up for appointment to the Supremes over the next two years . . . ~wince~
That may be the one way I live to regret this election.
It has to clear the Senate Judiciary Committee (the existing problem with Bush's appointees, as committees are controled by the majority party), then 50%+1 of the Senate, IIRC.

Date: 2002-11-07 01:09 pm (UTC)Well, the ACLU's got my 50 bucks to help in the struggle, anyway.
What's the required majority to confirm a judicial appointment?
