At the mall today I was accosted by a market researcher who wanted me to watch a movie preview and answer some questions. I agreed to do it; the movie in question has the above title and will be released in February. I was not overly impressed. It's a common-or-garden romantic comedy, and chemistry was not particularly apparent between the two leads.

But what kind of bothers me is the way the interviewer went about her job. Some of the questions were open-ended, and she'd take what I said and completely recast it into her own words so that it didn't much resemble what I had said. She suggested answers. What good is the survey going to do Paramount if it is only a bunch of copies of the interviewer's opinions?

Of course, even when the question was multiple-choice, the answers may not be meaningful. What I have to say doesn't necessarily slot into any of the given options. "I never see movies based only on the title and the stars' names" became "I definitely would not see this movie" (that was before I had seen the trailer).

One of the questions was about scenes I thought should be or should not be in the trailer. There was one that I found really offensive: the male lead opens a medicine cabinet and sees lots of tampons and sanitary pads. In context, this was made to be something that no woman should ever let a man know about (she was trying to make him break up with her). I think that's a very bad expectation to set. In my opinion it's better that people accept biology for what it is, rather than pretending to be impervious like Barbie or something. We'd all be a lot better off if kids didn't grow up thinking they were the only person in the world experiencing a particular biological reality because no one ever talks about it. Yes, we bleed every month. Some of us get cramps, some of us get crabby, some of us do both. It's *NORMAL*!

Christine told us bridesmaids before her wedding that K has never known when she's on her period. They've been together two-three years now, and she never lets on! I don't think that's right. However, she did tell us how she does it: she uses exclusively Instead. I tried them, after that...and am quite sold on them myself. But I think after this box runs out I'm actually going to buy a Keeper instead (no pun intended). Throw away a little less, save a little money on purchases.

What's exclusively Instead? I've never heard of it - is there a web site?

I'm sure I've mentioned this to you before, but I love my keeper. I've been using it for just over 3 years now, and it's great.

Some women don't like it much, but if you're using and liking Instead, you'll probably be fine. :)

TMI: Non bloody head during one's period. Ah yes. Life is good.

Did I mention they rock?

It's obvious from the title that this film is about a ridiculously young, naive woman. Otherwise she could have lost the stupid loser, er, lose-ee, in ten minutes instead of ten interminable days. Yaaaaawn.

i don't think you can have penetrative sex with the keeper. it sits much lower than instead. i don't know first hand, since it's an evil rubber device. ;)

there are probably posts about this in [livejournal.com profile] vaginapagina's memory section.

You can, if you're careful.

Wow, really? Maybe if you cut the stem off completely, but it sits really low in me. My boy even has trouble with the strings on my iud, depending on the time of the month. And he definitely feels Instead cups. Putting a towel under us seems to be the best option.

You have to be careful about the angle of penetration. If I remember correctly, it works best if the woman is sitting up, kind of.

I've cut most of the stem off, but there's still some left.

As curgoth said, it works best in certain positions - I actually forgot I had it in, and initiated sex, only realizing afterwards that my keeper was in.

I don't know if he felt it or not, but it did work. Different body types' milage may vary.

That's really odd. I mean, what kind of man (or woman!) would be scared off by tampons? It's not like "Oh my God! This woman must *BLEED* every month! Surely no other woman on earth does that! I must get away from this one!" If she'd had a severed head in her medicine cabinet, or jars full of her fingernail clippings or something, I'd understand, but geez. How lame.

*snork* The boy keeps better track of my period than I do.

I like the Instead, also. Took a few attempts at wearing it before it got comfortable for me. Tried sex with it in last month; worked great. I just rinse 'em and re-use them during my period; throw one away a month, that's only 4 boxes a year.

and here is an interesting story about it - http://www.mum.org/stalling.htm
and a comparison between instead and the keeper - http://www.mum.org/KeeperInsteadpic.htm
and a yahoo group with info about both - I haven't checked any of these out -
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seac-tampons/message/20
and the instead webpage? maybe? http://www.softcup.com/

I didn't know that the keeper had a rish of TSS as well.
