They learn manipulation far too early. I had to put Rosa in time-out just now, and when I would not relent, she started crying "I want my daddy!"

I don't know if it is manipulation in so much as a desire to be comforted.

I remember me and my brother fighting; when Mom separated us and sent us to our rooms, I sat at the door crying "MOMMY!" even though she was the one punishing us.

You may be right. 'Stough though, being a single mom, when she cries for daddy. We have joint custody, so it's not like she doesn't see him; it's just that situations like today feel like rejection of me in his favor. I know it isn't, of course...

Mine are 5 and 7 (girls) and my move out date is Saturday. Not looking forward to the oncoming parade of emotions from them or me. I admire your courage. I hope i can do as well.
