Odd movie. A lot of voiceover narration, little dialogue. I think it might qualify as a picaresque, and there are few enough of those these days. It was almost, but not quite, surreal. Very pretty.
Amelie herself is amazingly flaky, descending on people's lives like fairy dust--she even looks like a pixie, if pixies had gorgeous breasts. She can't do anything straightforward but thinks up bizarre strategems to accomplish her goals. For a while I was wanting to slap her for being coy to the point of cowardice.

I saw that movie on the shelf last night when I was picking out DVDs. I almost bought it even though I hadn't even heard of it before. Something about it seemed particularly interesting and appealing. I will have to go rent it, and if I enjoy it as much as I think I will, it will be added to my collection.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, it was just strange. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't quite that.
