Instantaneous baby silliness of the moment: she knocked down my mouse, which she does all the time. She then said "kiss it" because it fell down. I told her she should kiss it because she knocked it down. So she did.

And right now she just walked over and gave the cat a hug and a kiss.

i occasionally watch my best friend's son. this past summer (he's four now, i think), we were walking home from the playground when he kicked at a tree root which was encroaching on the sidewalk.

"hey! we don't kick trees. that's not very nice. would you like to be kicked?"
he shook his head.
"well, why don't you say sorry to the tree?"

i forgot that apologies in his home are always accompanied with a hug.

he then hugged every single tree on the way home. and decided i needed to hug them, too. i love hugging trees. so strong, so alive...

my best friend, a former vegan and always-environmental activist, is highly amused that i've helped turn her son into a tree-hugger.

what can i say? ;)
