In between working this afternoon, I've been moving things around this room and picking up clutter and trash. So I set the external mouse (the built-in one quit working a while back) on top of my laptop keyboard and left the screen open to watch for updates.

And then proceeded to bump the table that the laptop was sitting on, and have time only to cringe as the floppity screen (hinge also not working well) fell *crack* right onto the mouse.

My screen now displays nothing but narrow vertical stripes radiating down from the crack, on a white background.

As if I had $800 for a new laptop.

Not that it's that much better, but I got one heck of a laptop on sale at Best Buy a while back for $350. Prices have dropped steeply. If you're not planning on using it for 3D gaming, there's no longer any reason to spend more than at most $380 on a laptop, and good deals can be found on brand new ones in the $300 to $350 range.

Mom snagged a decent laptop at a pawn shop for about $250.
