semperfionaOur household has had an Easter tradition of scavenger egg hunts: a minimal number of hidden eggs, with clues from one to the next. This year, though, we thought we'd try geocaching around the neighborhood instead. Easter Day was stormy, so it got postponed.
This morning, drizzly cold notwithstanding, Rosa and I went out with our umbrellas and inappropriate shoes
and looked for a couple of nearby caches. There are apparently more than twenty within a mile of here: I picked out three and entered the coordinates into Australia (my iphone is "...a shiny new Australia!") before we set out.
We saw some pretty things along the way: a peony,
a bush with white flowers that we haven't managed to identify yet (do you know what it is?),
and petals on the sidewalk,
and then arrived at the location of the first one. Tammie, Rosa and I had actually been in that location a few evenings earlier but we could not locate the actual cache. Tammie checked the internet clues, and this time we found it with no trouble. But I know why we hadn't spotted it in the dark the first time...it's smaller than the tip of my pinky finger.
After signing my name on the logbook (with some difficulty), we went on to the second site. This one is beside a soon-to-open art gallery, and the gallery was having an open house with a craft table for kids, so we ended up spending about an hour inside while Rosa made a picture and we chatted with the artist and her other visitors. Finally we went back out into the drizzle to locate the cache. This one? Not so little.
Then it was time to head home so we could leave for polymunch. On the way, we saw this tidepool in a tree root.
Didn't make it to the third cache due to the running out of time, but also the artist at the gallery, who is herself a geocacher and hid both of the ones we found, said she's never been able to find that one and she thinks it has been muggled. We will probably eventually look anyway, but not today.
