I haven't read those, but really enjoyed the Guy Gavriel Kaye books set in China.

I have liked every one of Kay's books that I've read (which is most of them) but Fionavar is the one I go back to year after year. There's something about them that I call "glory": a satisfying resolution after sacrifice and honor and striving against evil. I cry so many tears when reading (or listening) to these books.

The other Kay I adore beyond measure is _Tigana_, which I also reread regularly.
