Dec. 1st, 2015 03:06 pmRelieved to see the back of November 2015. Mum died, Nicodemus died, Emma's pregnant and as of Sunday night, engaged to be married (maybe this is good news, but I'm not convinced--I have never really liked her boyfriendfiancé), too many things going on.
But there are New Kittenz! Butch and Sundance are Not Amused, however.

Oct. 27th, 2015 10:49 amI've been doing pretty well this last week. It surprises me somewhat, but other than the first couple of days even the emotional volatility has settled down and I'm mostly content.

I went to Dance Journey last night with Tammie and Jasmine and had the most energy-perceptive experience I think I've ever had. Jasmine was substitute teaching and she had us concentrate on our Center and our Circumference, feeling the core and the edges of ourselves, reaching out beyond our skin to the rest of the room and even outside. I really felt my center as a ball of blue-white lightning, and when reaching out to the circumference could also feel the brushing touches of the auras of the other people in the room and the grass and breeze outside. Tammie and I both agreed on the aura-colors of everyone else, which surprised me a lot. It was very freeing for me to be "big" in the world, to be expansive and take up energy-space.
I think this is a thing I need to practice more: feeling my surroundings and connections to the others nearby and being as big as I want to be, without losing my core. In contrast, Tammie felt almost the opposite: she spends too much time being sensitive to the others around her and needs to build energy walls and shields around her core.

Emma told Chris last night that she and Joe are moving back to Chicago; he's got a job offer with the company his father works for. Chris is disappointed and we will miss her, but it sounds like a far better situation for a baby to come into: the new job will pay $18-19/hr which is almost certainly a huge increase on what he makes at Sonic. And it definitely means they aren't expecting any of us to step in for child care or day-to-day support, which was one of my big fears about the situation. On the other hand, it means Emma's mom gets more involved in her daily life again, which may lead to re-estrangement between Chris and Emma.

My longest podfic to date was published on Sunday! Nearly four hours, recorded and edited in several sessions through July and August, and I'm really pleased with it. http://hd-fan-fair.livejournal.com/106541.html
Author's original Summary: Auror Potter and Unspeakable Malfoy team up to investigate a series of missing persons, and it soon becomes apparent that Dementors are involved. Despite their initial misgivings, Harry and Draco find that they need each other's help, in more ways than one.
Rated: G (yes, really!)
I'm looking for The Next Thing to record. I'd kind of like it to be smutty smexy femslash, if someone has a recommendation. I'm open to any fandom that I have any knowledge of (or can get a base level of knowledge quickly), and I tend to prefer approx 10K in length. That comes out to about an hour at my reading rate, which I can usually do in one sitting, and then go back and edit in another. Not to say that I wouldn't do another long one, or a super short one for that matter.

House dreams
Jul. 1st, 2013 01:18 pmI think it's because we're doing a lot of work on the house this spring/early summer--what with Emma moving in--I've been having dreams about a house. It's not this house, it's not a house I've ever actually seen, but it's HUUUUUUGE, has all kinds of hidden rooms and balconies, a freaking parking garage in one dream...
In today's dream I re-discovered or reopened a whole floor in the house. Reopened a room with a wooden floor painted pink, where the windows had been left open but somehow nothing important was damaged. Just a lot of disused woodgrain plastic 3-ring binders. "I can use this as a craft room!"
Outside the pink floored room was a balcony that from the outside looked like a Disney castle covered in flowering vines. There were some neighbors out there, we had a conversation I can't remember.
Back inside, the next room was full of ancient and deteriorating Japanese and Korean stringed instruments. An elderly Japanese lady was trying to repair them--she wouldn't accept payment unless the repairs succeeded, and they didn't seem to be going well. She was tying off each individual string to a woven fabric piece that was dry-rotted; I couldn't see how it could hold the knots for long.
There was an enormous bathroom with a big shower. I remember thinking how good it would be not to have all six of us sharing a single shower anymore.
More details escape me at this late hour. Should have made notes immediately.

Stepping up
Jun. 21st, 2013 10:15 amThis afternoon Chris and I are headed to Chicagoland to fetch his daughter and her boyfriend. She'll be living with us for the foreseeable; the boyfriend starts college on the other side of the river in August.
We've been working like fiends for the last month trying to make the basement ready for them. We got stairs put in to make the attic usable, and have been moving the enormous pile of stuff out of the basement and up to the attic instead. It's not finished by a long chalk, although we've made huge progress. But the kids will help with the rest of it, and we'll help them paint and furnish the space. She's talking about purple and red--a big change from the current cafe-au-lait color scheme.
Life is going to be a bit different around here. Sitting around in just a bathrobe, like I'm doing right now and have been doing all week, is going to become not-possible. I think I mentioned that my desk at work is currently non-existent? Should be back on Monday, but I've been displaced all week while they remodel our cubicles. Photos of the progress and updates from the facilities manager show that they're not going to be *quite* as bad as I'd feared--we're getting higher side walls than originally anticipated, so at least we'll not be on top of each other that way.
