Not my cat!

We're not going to keep her, really we're not! Even though everyone in the family more'n-arf wants to. My dad will probably adopt her, as he is in the market for a young cat, pending her visit to the vet and a clean bill of health.

But if you name it, it's yours...and as of yesterday she had at least four possible names. Now it's five. I am trying to tell myself that this just gives Dad a better chance of naming her something other than "Cat" (his previous cat, now living with me, is named Katze: German for cat).

Chris calls her Random, for "random kitty" and also for Random of Amber. The fact that Random of Amber was a man is only added amusement. This also goes along with my preexisting mode of feline naming.

I proposed the name Indigo, since we found her the evening after the Indigo Girls concert, and her "points" are vaguely purplish if you exercise a little imagination.

Jamie suggested Magpie, for a kitty particularly fond of shinies. She had been staying in the upstairs bathroom. Go in there naked of a morning, sit on the commode, and she would jump onto your lap. Which when I did it gave her little nibbly teeth access to my piercings. (Ew.)

Rosa is calling her Princess She-wa-nah (gods only know how it's spelled). That's a bit much name for daily use, but Princess is not out of line.

This morning my colleagues misheard me calling her "foster cat" and declared that Foster was a fine name for a young Siamese. And as we are fans of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends...

About three weeks ago, a man came past our house looking for his cat. She's a small Siamese, very friendly, he said. Told me his address. I looked for the cat a little bit but didn't find her, and then mostly forgot about it except that a handbill appeared on the streetlight at our corner.

Last night, after we got home from the Indigo Girls concert, guess what we found hiding in our bushes: a small friendly female Siamese cat, possibly pregnant or recently delivered. Chris went back out and searched for kittens but didn't find any. We cooped her up in the upstairs bathroom, and first thing today after dropping Rosa at school I went over to the man's house and rang the bell.

Took him a while to get to the door, because he'd worked last night, but no. The cat we found is not his cat. I showed him a picture of the cat we found, he showed me a picture of his. They're very similar, but his cat has brown paws and this one has white feet. Also this one is grayer and his is browner.

That poor guy. I feel awful that I gave him some hope and then it turns out to be the wrong cat.

I have listed her on craigslist and this afternoon I'll take her to the vet clinic to see if she's got a chip. In the meantime, she's got all the comforts of home in the bathroom, and she'll be fine there. Hopefully we won't be getting a litter of kittens while we wait for the cat's people to turn up.

ETA: I just got back from the cat clinic. She does not have a chip. Vet assistant says she appears recently delivered, but maybe the kittens are already weaned.
