Further to my bake sale angst, I've been trying to think of a suitable organization to donate to in lieu of contributing to the one that $COMPANY('s charity committee) has chosen. I've been pondering Scarleteen or the National Sexuality Defense Fund (or whatever the right name is...not going to go searching for either of them while I'm at work.)

I'm open to other suggestions. Sell me on your favorite organization.

Scarleteen would be lovely.

National Network for Youth serves homeless youth and sexual minority youth. Girl's Incorporated is pretty good and serves ethnic minority and working class and poor girls; the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the US is a wonderful organzition that has been around for a very long time helping to advocate for open and informed sexuality education.

Yes, they're actually a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation who support many GLBT causes. When I was active in SOBOA they gave us a grant for printing bi educational pamphlets.

I've heard criticisms of Planned Parenthood, but the fact remains that they're the last resort abortion provider in most states. Planned Parenthood provides affordable gynecological and prenatal services to thousands. They truly help provide choices to women.
