Mystery water trucks
Jan. 31st, 2008 06:40 pmI arrived at my street tonight--after an hour's drive on snowy roads--to find it barricaded with a row of traffic cones. "Grrr," quoth I, "How'm I supposed to get home?"
I turned in at the alley and backed into my normal curbside parking place.
Once inside the house, I find flashing yellow lights outside the front door on a white truck helpfully labeled "water", and another, yellow truck parked a few yards further away. No sign of what they're doing, but it's clearly too much muscle for shutting our water off for non-payment (besides which, the water meter's on the other side of the house anyway).
Yesterday there had been a section of the street about halfway down the block to the west that was posted "Emergency No Parking Water Department" but no further information is forthcoming.
